World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism PrizeWinfried Brenne and Franz Jaschke at the ADGB School

The World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize has been established as the cornerstone of the larger advocacy mission of the World Monuments Fund Modernism at Risk Initiative.

Beginning in 2008, the Prize will be awarded biennially to an individual or firm in recognition of a completed project or a body of work that enhances the public’s awareness of the significant role that modernism plays in our architectural heritage.

Whether using the latest and most effective preservation techniques or applying creative design solutions that extend the life and viability of modern landmarks, the prize-winning work will mitigate the effects of the key challenges facing many Modern buildings: demolition, inappropriate alteration, perceived obsolescence, and public apathy, as well as the technical problems associated with conserving innovative designs and materials.

The World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize is the first award to recognize the architects and designers who help ensure the rejuvenation and long-term survival of Modern structures.

The award is a $10,000 honorarium and a limited-edition chair manufactured by Knoll.

Knoll is the founding sponsor of the World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism Prize.
