WMF invites our Southern California friends to join us for an illustrated lecture by WMF Britain Chief Executive Dr. Jonathan Foyle, who will look at the many challenges facing important works of architecture around the world, and the multi-faceted benefits of ensuring their survival. As industrialized development, climate change, and economic conditions threaten fragile historic sites, stories of their struggles for survival are more compelling than ever before.

About the Speaker

Dr. Jonathan Foyle has served as Chief Executive of World Monuments Fund Britain since 2007. Trained as an architect and art historian, he holds a doctorate in archaeology, specializing in early Renaissance architecture in Britain. He developed a practical knowledge of British historical monuments as an assistant surveyor of Canterbury Cathedral, and then as Buildings Curator at Hampton Court Palace and Kew Palace. His award-winning writing has been regularly published in The Financial Times, and he is author of Architecture of Canterbury Cathedral (Scala 2013). His architectural illustrations and reconstructions have been featured in broadcasts, exhibitions, and publications. He formerly taught for University of Cambridge International Schools, and has lectured widely from Britain to Australia. But he is perhaps best known for presenting television broadcasts on architectural topics, including BBC2’s Broadcast Award-winner Climbing Great Buildings, BBC4’s Henry VIII: Patron or Plunderer? , History Channel’s Lost Worlds and Secrets of Egypt, and as a specialist on Channel 4’s long-running Time Team.
