Following the success of Grands Châteaux of the Loire and Ile-de-France, The Making of the French Garden, The Great Churches of Paris and The Great Museums of Paris series of online talks, Russell Kelley returns to offer an enthralling new Zoom series about Five Iconic Sites Supported by World Monuments Fund.

After an introductory lecture by Mathilde Augé, Executive Director of WMF France, the series will feature five iconic but very different sites in and around Paris whose restoration has been supported by World Monuments Fund: the Hôtel de la Chancellerie d’Orléans and the Hôtel de Rohan (two celebrated hôtels particuliers dating back to the 18th century); the Potager du Roi at the Château de Versailles; the Opéra-Comique in Paris, with its magnificent Salle Favart; Saint-Eustache Church in Les Halles, the second largest church in Paris after Notre-Dame; and an exciting new WMF project.

This series runs every Thursday from January 9 through February 13, 2025 at 1pm ET.

About the Speakers

    Russell Kelley

    Series Curator and Moderator

    Russell Kelley was the curator and moderator of the past four winters’ Zoom lecture series on the “Grands Châteaux of the Loire and Île de France”, “The Making of the French Garden”, “The Great Churches of Paris”, and “The Making of the Museums of Paris”. He is the author of The Making of Paris: The Story of How Paris Evolved from a Fishing Village into the World’s Most Beautiful City (Lyons Press, 2021), and has lived in Paris for more than 30 years.

    Executive Director, WMF France

    Mathilde Augé, an art historian, joined World Monuments Fund in 2023 to become the representative in France. Prior to joining WMF, she directed the cultural programming at the French Institute Alliance Française In New York, curating programs in performing and visual arts as well as conversations on heritage and preservation. Previously, she worked in publishing for different French publishing houses such as Gallimard and Presses Universitaires de France in Paris. A former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Ulm), she has a Master's in art history from the University Panthéon Sorbonne and a Master’s in Media, Art and Creation from HEC Paris.
