From April 3-April 5, travelers will explore Milan to celebrate the new International Council chapter in Italy

Italy has been at the heart of WMF since our founding in 1965 when Colonel James A. Gray saw challenges facing the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The following year, after record floods hit Venice, Colonel Gray mobilized to conserve Italy’s historic treasures, setting the stage for decades of engagement and launching a global movement in safeguarding heritage.

Throughout this journey, we will visit cultural heritage sites of great significance throughout Milan, as well as discover artistic and cultural centers of the iconic city.

Key trip activities include:

- A private tour of the Villa Necchi in the heart of Milan.

- Visit to the Luigi Rovati Foundation, which promotes the research, conservation and exhibition of its tangible and intangible heritage and has one of the most important collections of Etruscan artifacts in the world.

- Spend a morning at Duomo di Milano, Milan’s iconic cathedral, with refreshments and a view of the archives at the Sala dei Milanesi hosted by the Veneranda Fabbrica, institution responsible for the conservation and development of the Cathedral.

- Discover the world renowned Museo Poldi Pezzoli.

- Explore the atelier of Luisa Beccaria, a Milanese fashion designer known for her exquisite designs and craftsmanship.

- Join a private behind the scenes tour of La Scala, the historic landmark theatre of Milan, with pre-performance refreshments before taking seats to enjoy Giacomo Puccini’s sold out performance of Tosca.

- Visit the the church of San Maurizio, which was connected to one of the most significant female monasteries in the city, from which it takes its name.

- Explore a nearby hub of artisans and craft studios, including a visit to the atelier of Osanna Visconti, an artist and designer working in bronze using the ancient lost wax technique, and Laboratorio Paravicini a studio dedicated to beautiful hand-painted plates.

A part of our travel program, WMF Escapade trips are reserved for members of the International Council. Learn more about how you can join.
